With three doors in Canada, Blitz Facial Bar opens its first US location in one of the hippest areas of New York.
October 24, 2016
By: Christine Esposito
Editor-in-Chief
A mecca of all things hip and happening, Brooklyn, NY has been enjoying more than a moment in the sun. For the past several years, there’s been a surging population of young urban professionals and omnipresent artsy types opting to live in areas like Park Slope rather than the outer suburbs of New York City. The area seemed like perfect location for Body Blitz founders and sister-entrepreneurs Laura and Rena Polley to open a Blitz Facial Bar. Blitz Facial Bar, founded in 2015 as an extension of Body Blitz Spa, was created by the Polleys to provide convenient and affordable facials that everyday people to incorporate into their regular beauty routine. Park Slope marks the fourth location for the Polleys and their first in the US; the other three are in Canada. The facial bar’s treatment menu offers guests five facial options ranging from 30-60 minutes that can be customized with booster options. Blitz Facial Bar also boasts an exclusive line of proprietary skin care products, containing pure essential oils with ingredients derived from natural sources, to help cleanse, nourish and hydrate the skin. The product line includes Retinol Advanced Night Cream ($85), Vitamin C Day Repair ($80) and Clay Mask ($30) among other cleansing and moisturizing essentials. Happi caught up with Laura Polley shortly after the Blitz Facial Bar opened for business in Park Slope in late September to learn more about this newcomer to the US skin care services sector. HAPPI: Why Park Slope and was it difficult to find the right space? Polley: Our Blitz Facial Bars are located close to where people live and work to make it easy and accessible for them. The facial bars in Canada are in really great neighborhoods and we were looking for the same kind of place in Brooklyn. We love Park Slope! And we were lucky that we found the perfect space quite quickly. HAPPI: Tell us about what makes Blitz Facial Bar different from other spas/facial bars? Polley: Blitz Facial Bars put a modern spin on classic facials by offering quality 30 and 60 minute facials for on-the-go men and women, in an open concept modern space. We offer both customized facials and IPL (laser) treatments with a la carte add-ons. This gives our clients lots of options so we can address all kinds skin concerns and issues. Our expert estheticians will analyze your skin and can customize a facial or facial program for you as well as send you home with a prescription pad of recommended products for your at-home regimen. Great skin requires looking after and Blitz Facial Bars are there to make it easy for you. HAPPI: What are the hero products in the Body Blitz skin care line? Polley: We have three favorite products that stand out as superstars—our Vitamin C Day Repair with 10% L-ascorbic acid, our Argan Renewal Serum and our .5% Retinol Advanced Night Cream. Adding these products to your skin care will provide a range of benefits, from evening out skin tone and significantly improving hydration, to brightening and diminishing sun damage and keeping your skin looking younger, healthier and more vibrant. As these products contain high levels of antioxidants, we consider them the powerhouses of our skin care line. HAPPI: Why did you create your own products? What did you see that was missing or lacking? Polley: We believe that healthy skin is beautiful skin. Our exclusive skin care line contains pure essential oils with ingredients derived from natural sources that are high in antioxidants. It was important that our skin care line supports and maintains the dermal results experienced from the facials. Key ingredients such vitamin C, retinol (vitamin A), salicylic acid and Sederma’s Renovage, to name a few, help to support and enhance skin’s health and glow. HAPPI: So, are there plans to open more facial bars—where and when? Polley: Yes. We’re opening a Blitz Facial Bar in the financial district of Toronto in December, and we’re looking at opening another Brooklyn location in Williamsburg. We’re also hoping to expand to other US cities as well. HAPPI: And what’s upcoming or new in terms of new products that you may add? Polley: We are excited to be introducing three additional dermal products to our skin care line—a Gentle Daily Cleanser for those with sensitive skin, an Exfoliating Polish to help skin look younger and brighter and a Soothing Balm for those suffering from rosacea and broken capillaries.
